Alamada’s pride wins Mutya ng North Cot 2014 Centennial Queen By Jimmy Sta. Cruz PGO Media Center AMAS, Kidapawan City (Aug. 25) – Ma. Jemi Keziah D. Arroyo, the eye-catching lady from the Municipality of Alamada, bested 14 other candidates during the grand coronation night of the Mutya ng North Cotabato 2014 – Centennial Queen held at the Provincial Gymnasium on Monday night, April 25, 2014. The 22 year old crowned Mutya ng North Cotabato 2014 is a registered nurse and was not totally neophyte in beauty contests. She was the 2nd Runner-Up of Mutya ng North Cotabato in 2012. Arroyo, a sight to behold during the pageant first wowed the judges at the early part of the competition with her dashing smile and a sparkle in her eyes. She then impressed the judges during the individual interview portion when she was asked what it is that she possess that she considers an advantage over the other candidates which will make her win the crown. “All of us candidates are equally beautiful and talented but I think that it is my characteristic, I always aim for excellence and never settle for mediocrity gives me the upper hand. Moreover, I am empowered byb the will and desire to influence the young generation of Cotabato. A beauty with purpose and a beauty with character”, was Arroyo’s answer. And finally, during the final question for the Top 5, Arroyo got the unanimous decision of the judges when she was asked the question “If there’s one thing that you want to change or desire the most for the people of Cotabato, what would it be, and why?” Her answer was “I don’t want to change a thing. But I wanted it to be strengthened - the unity of people in North Cotabato despite diversity. Let us promote peace and harmony. There is strength if we work together”. These sent the crowd inside the gym cheering and gave her a long applause. An estimated 7,000 people watched the coronation night. The grand coronation night was hosted by Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010 and 2010 Miss Universe 4th runner up Venus Raj and model-singer Aldrico Padilla. The Board of Judges were composed of Police Sr. Supt. Cornelio R. Salinas, (former CPPO PD) Provincial Director of Ilo-Ilo Police Provincial Office, Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner Up, Vito Selma, renowned International Furniture Designer, Ariela Arida, Miss Universe 2013 3rd Runner Up and Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2014 Mary Jean Lastimosa as the Chairperson of the Board of Judges. Arroyo took home P50,000 as cash prize and a trophy. She also won three special awards – Best in Play Suit, Best in Interview and Best in Gown. Her designer automatically won the Best Designer of Gown award. Arroyo also won the Smart Text Poll for the Texter’s Choice Award or the candidate with most number of votes. Charmaine R. Fajanela of the Municipality of Arakan landed as 1st Runner-Up with P40,000 and adjudged as Miss Photogenic, Stephanie Joy Abellanida - 2nd Runner-Up (P30,000), Clarice Faith V. Tero – 3rd Runner-Up (P20,000) and Aleana Grace F. Corpuz – 4th Runner-Up (10,000). Mungan E. Mamparair of the Municipality of Carmen was chosen as Best in Talent and Syrhene A. Allado of the Municipality of Tulunan was chosen the Best in Haute Couture. The Talent and Haute Couture Presentation were held at Magpet Gymnasium last Aug. 1, 2014. Two other celebrities added up to the excitement of the coronation night. They were Lloyd Lee, the husband of Shamcey Supsup-Lee and up-and-coming male model-singer Ken Alfonso. The coronation night was a total success and Gov. Emmylou “Lala” J. Taliño-Mendoza attributed this the wide support of Cotabateños to all the events lined up by the Provincial Government of Cotabato in line with the celebration of the 100th founding anniversary or centennial of the Province of Cotabato.
