Albertans should be furious about what is happening with health care services, Alberta Health Services and the provincial government. Here is a message that just came out Wednesday morning: "New Democrat Health critic David Eggen released the following statement on the decision by Alberta Health Services (AHS) to eliminate 23 Registered Nurse positions and 4 Licensed Practical Nurse positions at two Edmonton hospitals: "“We have seen this pattern of behaviour before with cuts to health care. In 1993 the reduction of nursing staff hurt the quality of care in Alberta, and now that we finally began digging ourselves out of that hole, this PC government is making the same grave mistakes again—and from what we have heard there are plenty more cuts to come. These cuts are a direct result of this government’s broken promises to provide stable, predictable funding for our health care system. "“You simply cannot trust this PC government when it comes to health care in Alberta. The PCs think they can cut dozens of frontline nursing positions across the province and expect Albertans to believe quality of care won’t be affected. "“Cuts to frontline staff are like a train wreck in slow motion: wait times get longer, quality suffers and young nurses get the message that they aren’t welcome.”"
