Alert: Someone tried to use my ATM card twice in Georgia and - TopicsExpress

Alert: Someone tried to use my ATM card twice in Georgia and fortunately there wasn`t enough money at the time in my checking account to cover their purchases so they were declined. THEN I got a very official looking email supposedly from my bank saying there had been some suspicious activity with my card which they had now locked and would not release until I entered ALL of my pertinent information again and had chosen a security question etc. It seemed unlikely to me that my bank would require me to enter all of my personal info in an email. So I didn`t respond to the email and instead went into the bank this morning to speak to one of the officers. That`s when I found out someone had been trying to use my card in Georgia yesterday when I had thankfully used it here first in the morning to draw all my cash out for the weekend. My bank had NOT sent the letter. It was from the scammers trying to get the rest of my info. I asked how this happened and found someone had used a scanner at a convenience store ATM to capture my info and immediately printed out a phony card. I NEVER use ATM machines anywhere but at my own bank but the other morning the machine was down at my bank and I needed cash so I used the machine at Bullshead Variety. I tell you this long drawn out story so that you think twice before using a nonbank ATM AND before responding to an email from your bank requesting you enter any of your personal info. I had received another in the summer supposedly from my bank and went in to report it but at the time she said my account was secure. Your bank will cover fraudulent Credit Card purchases but NOT fraudulent Debit card expenditures! I had to get a new card and change my account password and my access code. So hopefully now I`m ok.
