Alert reader Paulina Vincent says, This article comparing education in South Korea and my native Finland may be of interest to folks. Heres an interesting quote that emphasizes a difference I was somewhat aware of, but didnt know the exact hours: Teachers in Finland teach 600 hours a year, spending the rest of time in professional development, meeting with colleagues, students and families. In the U.S., teachers are in the classroom 1,100 hours a year, with little time for collaboration, feedback or professional development. Which proves OUR point that homeschool parents need to invest in teaching ourselves how to teach better (this is actually the #1 reason folks subscribe to our magazine).
