Alfonso Castaneda town gets P19.6M share from Casecnan tax BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, October 31(PIA) – The provincial government here recently released P19.6 million to Alfonso Castaneda town. The amount represents the local government unit’s share from the Real Property Tax(RPT) payment by the contractor of the Casecnan Multi-Purpose Irrigation and Power Project(CMIPP), Casecnan Water and Energy Company(CWEC). Rhoda Moreno, acting provincial treasurer said the amount covers the basic tax and Special Education Fund(SEF) for the host LGU of the irrigation and power project. “This payment covers payment of the company for the second and third quarter of this year,” she said. Moreno said CMIPP pays its RPT obligation to the province at more than P171 million yearly through quarterly payments. CMIPP is a hydroelectric facility composed of two impounding dams and a power plant, connected by a pair of 26-kilometer diversion tunnels. It was constructed during the Ramos administration and has been in operation for the last 14 years diverting irrigation waters from Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino provinces for irrigation of farmlands and to augment the power requirements of Central Luzon. The project siphons water particularly from the Taan and Casecnan rivers in Alfonso Castañeda through the said diversion tunnels to the Pantabangan Dam in Nueva Ecija. There are at least 200,000 hectares of farmland in Central Luzon and the western part of Pangasinan that get irrigated by the CMIPP using the water sourced from the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino. # ben moses ebreo/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya
