Alfredo de Oro Cuban billiard considered one of the best players ever. His history in the pool world championships began in 1885 when he finished tied for first place with three other players, but in defining the aim failed him and it cost him third place. A year later (1886) gets first world title. In 1889 he lost his crown to Albert G. Powers, which rebounded in 1891 to keep it for 18 consecutive years. He won the snooker world championship in 31 opportunities, of those titles, 18 occurred consecutively. No other billiard approach has achieved that mark. American Billiards Digest magazine recognized him as the fourth best player in the world at all times. Alfredo de Oro, along with Ramon and Jose Raul Capablanca Fonst are the three most important figures in Cuban sports world in the early decades of the twentieth century. He finally retired in 1934 after having gone to the United States, where he died in 1948 at the age of 85. Was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame of America billiard congress in 1967.
