Algeria: Kabylia Provisional Government Issues Statement April 19, 2011 | 2216 GMT A referendum for autonomy should be held with mutual agreement with Algeria, according to a statement from the Provisional Government of Kabylia on April 19, Fox News reported. The statement said demonstrations on April 20 and subsequent demonstrations will be a request for the referendum and they hope the U.S. administration will pressure Algeria to accept a democratic claim. The statement went on to say the Kabyle Forest Mountains are a stronghold for al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, and the group knows their secular agenda will be effective in the fight against Islamist terrorists. The provincial government aims to eliminate ideology from political institutions and Kabyle military forces have been more effective at this than the Algerian Army, the statement said. The group said they are prepared for effective military cooperation with the U.S. to fight Islamist terrorists, and they want to be recognized and funded in order to preserve their democratic values.
