Alhamdulillah. May peace be upon you. Aye. GameRewind overload. I woke up on a Sunday morning in September glad I dont have to watch a football game today. How odd is that? The game reviews take several hours to produce. It is a lot of starting and stopping the video, rewinding, putting slow motion on slower motion, watching some plays several times, listening to some things the announcers are saying several times, taking notes on everything that is of potential interest, browsing for rules and player names, and then actually typing up a post from the notes. It takes what would be a relaxing and enjoyable two to three hours watching a football game replay into a seven to 16 hour chore. What I find by doing this is what the Canadian scholar Marshall McLuhan meant when he said in the context of speaking about the mass media and its audience, that we are not meant to travel at the speed of light. The information is coming at us so quickly in a constant stream, our conscious minds cannot possibly process it all to make sense of it or to note the many inconsistencies presented to us. Our eyes are seeing one thing, while the announcers are telling us we are seeing something else and the refs are doing something different even from all of that. You have to think, this is causing an awful lot of cognitive dissonance in peoples minds from what the subconscious is taking in that does not match what is being processed through the consciousness. No wonder so many football fans are venomous in their comments on the NFL Facebook page. They love the sport but getting near it also raises this inexplicable and very crass anger in some of them (as if getting near the sport they love is inducing mini bipolar episodes). You also have to think, if this is the mess the organized global criminal elite can make out of the game of professional football, what else are they doing? Thats when your mind starts going beyond sports and next thing you know, you - one of the purposefully under-educated masses who was being purposefully distracted by this uber-wealthy criminal elite through football and cheap beer - are reading and viewing things like The 9/11 Hoax and become introduced to the network of internet dissidents (as well as better beer). The dissidents have always existed but the internet has given the technology we need to connect with one another across factions which has led to a breaking down of divide and conquer barriers between us. It has allowed us to learn the truth about one another, discarding all the lies the enemy has told us about one another, and unify against that common enemy - the organized global criminal elite operating by arms (locals, like labor unions) of local ruling mafias all over this nation and the world. McLuhan was a student of Harold Innis, the Canadian scholar who studied the history of information technology in relation to the rise and falls of empires and from whose findings and explanations - again and again, the empires set themselves up to fall when in the pursuit of profit, they introduce to their own oppressed people the technology that undermines their control of information - anyone could have guessed this is exactly what the internet would lead to. McLuhan certainly understood it, eh? Anyhow, Ill probably be recovered from football overload in time for tonights NBC telecast, providing neither the power, the computer, nor the internet go out.
