Alhumdulillah.... The Prophet’s SAW Biography – The Rebuilding of the Kaabah When the prophet SAW was about 35 years old, or five years before revelation started, Quraysh gathered to discuss an important matter. Due to flood water and other causes, the walls of Kaabah began to split that it could have collapsed anytime. So Quraysh gathered to discuss first the destruction of the Kaabah’s edifice, then to rebuild it with a roof. However, Quraysh was scared that rebuilding the Kaabah in such a way might be a form of sacrilege which could have evil repercussions. Quraysh finally decided to work on only one part of Kaabah at a time, and if they see an evil portent they would stop the project.Hence, each Meccan subtribe was assigned a part of Kaabah to renovate, and the prophet SAW participated in the work as well. During the construction work, Al-Abbas asked the prophet SAW to place his loincloth over his neck to protect himself from stones. And when the prophet SAW tried to do so, he fell to the ground, his eyes fixed on the sky, and when he woke up he shouted “My loincloth”. He SAW shouted “My loincloth” twice, then immediately tied his loincloth around himself again. When the reconstruction work was almost complete,a heated argument broke out. Every subtribe wanted to place the black stone in its place. The argument got out of hands to the point that Quraysh was on the verge of fighting one another for the honor of placing the black stone. And it wasn’t until their oldest chieftain, Umayyah ibn Al-Mugheerah suggested a solution which calmed them all down. Umayyah suggested that they appoint the first person who passes by them to act as a judge over the case. All subtribes agreed and hence, all of them waited anxiously for that first person to pass by and become their judge. To everyone’s satisfaction, it was Mohammed SAW,and at his sight they all exclaimed “Here is the trustworthy one,we are indeed pleased!”. The prophet suggested they bring a robe, place the black stone in its middle, and let each subtribe’s leader hold a corner of the robe.
