Aligarh Muslim University, won the inaugural match of the North Zone Intervarsity Hockey Tournament by defeating Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna University, Garhwal 9-0 here on Monday at the Astroturf Ground. Syed Nihal Wajid (Captain), M. Salman Khan, Faraz Khan and Farogh Ali scored two goals each while Abhishek Singh scored one goal. Former Indian Hockey Captain Ajeet Pal Singh addressing the inaugural function of North Zone Inter University Hockey Tournament. In another match, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi thrashed Lovely Professional University, Phagwada 10-2. Pawan Singh Chauhan scored a hatrick while Pawan Malik and Rakesh Kumar scored two goals each. Bhakhar Singh scored two goals for their team. Former Indian Hockey Captain addressing the inaugural function of North Zone Inter University Hockey Tournament. Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut defeated Jammu University 7-5. Dr. BR Ambedkar University, Agra got walkover against Hisar Agriculture University. Ajeet Pal Singh, Zafar Iqbal and AMU VC flying Pigeon and balloon at the North Zone Inter University Tournament. Earlier, former Indian Hockey Captain, Padma Shri Ajeet Pal Singh and Padma Shri Zafar Iqbal inaugurated the Tournament. AMU Vice Chancellor, Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah presided over the function. Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Secretary, University Games Committee welcomed the guests and Prof. Shoeb Zaheer conducted the programme. Twenty four teams are participating in the tournament.
