All - Its been a while since Ive posted a decent status, so thought it was about time I shared something, and so felt that Id take this opportunity to tell you about a new family tradition my Mum, Dad, Brothers and I started this Christmas. I came across a concept of giving which I really wanted to have a go at. Its all about giving what the heart can afford, even if the wallet cant. Now, I know that Christmas is not all about the giving of gifts and that theres more to it than that (those thinking it was all about the gifts, go look up the meaning of Christmas on your favourite search engine. Brace yourself, and ensure youre seated comfortably, youre in for a shock!!), but I wanted a way of showing those I care about most, that the commercialisation or money wasnt everything. Not that my family arent already aware of this of course, but it was a nice sentiment nonetheless. So, I purchased some re-usable gift boxes from a very well known gift card shop and wrote on the bottom each family members name. I then went shopping, or virtual shopping with the following thought in mind. If money werent a concern, what gift would I really get each of my family?. I found a top of the range mixer that I knew my Mum, who bakes Cakes for a living, would totally love (Checkout her cakes Facebook Page Cakes 2 Ice). A trip of a lifetime for my Father in an old fighter jet. A top of the range microphone for one of my Brothers and ring side seats at next years WWE Wrestle Mania for my youngest Brother. All gifts I wish I could get them but cant afford. So a printed off a picture of each of them and placed them in the respective boxes. On Christmas day, we exchanged gifts (or a few days later for my little Brother as we travelled North to see him and his wife the following Sunday), and I left the boxes until last. Once everyone had opened their gifts, I passed out the extra gifts accordingly and explained the story - Giving with the heart and not the wallet. Now as cheesy and perhaps a little corny as this all may sound, the idea and sentiment went down perfectly. Despite not being a real mixer, and real fighter jet experience, a real high end microphone and real ring-side tickets, they all loved what it represented, the spirit in which it was intended. So much so, that we decided to all do it next year as part of a new family tradition. I should add, for those thinking is that all he got them?, I did get them normal gifts too :-) So, having shared this little ditty about a new family tradition, Id love to hear about some of your slightly more sentimental traditions if anyone fancies sharing any. In the meantime, I hope youve all had an amazing Christmas and are getting ready for a wonderfully renewed New Year ahead. All the best - James
