All About Dogs 5th Annual Agility House League! Our - TopicsExpress

All About Dogs 5th Annual Agility House League! Our non-competitive league is organized to emphasize fun and skill development in a trial-like setting. Once again we will be streamlining our participants into 2 divisions in order to accommodate more of our up and coming agility stars! - Juniors - and to further challenge our “repeat offenders” - Masters. This will enable us to offer courses and games tailored to all. In order to make things a little easier on the course planning this year, we are holding the Masters and Juniors on separate Sundays. This will make it much easier to plan events suitable to each level and will also afford the opportunity to hold additional workshops and fun matches after each house league. Our Masters league will consist of 6 Sunday meet ups: Nov 16th , Dec 14th , Jan 4th , Jan 25th , Feb 22nd , March 22nd For the Juniors there will be 4 meet ups: Dec 7th , Jan 18th , Feb 8th , Mar 1st (Saving March 29th as a possible “snow” date in case any of the events get “rained” out) Each meet up will offer three runs to each dog and handler team. The courses will be a sampling of sanctioned agility games as well as a “non-traditional” games such as tunnelers or snakes and ladders, all designed to help you learn how to think on your feet. House league events will be run like a trial to help you become familiar with how trialing works. Participants will be taking turns as trial helpers: building courses, setting bars, straightening chutes as well as judging, timing and score keeping. We will be employing a scoring system to include the elements of competition to help participants experience the stresses of competing. The goal is to learn to work through this pressure in a positive fashion with the support of your team and class mates so you can trial successfully when you are ready. Registrants will be grouped into teams consisting of 3-5 dogs, with a minimum of 3 per team. You can either sign up with some friends as a team or let us assign you to a team. In addition to a variety of different fun games we will also be providing some sampling of the new agility venues and the options that they offer that are becoming more prevalent here in Ontario (UKI, USDAA come to mind). The Junior league events are designed for those with young dogs or less experienced teams who may not have achieved all of the equipment or handling skills to join the more advanced group. Courses and games will be geared to your level, and are meant to be an additional learning experience in conjunction with your regular weekly training. You will receive coaching on how to walk the course, as well as how to prepare yourself and your dog for the experience of a trial. Over the course of the 4 events you will learn about the different agility competitive venues and will be given a chance to test your skills and your ability to focus your dog through a variety of courses. If you are not sure which division would suit you best we will be able to guide you once we have received the registrations. If you are interested in participating please fill in the following form and remit back to the All About Dogs HQ as soon as possible. Registration -> https://docs.google/forms/d/1t9VsA1RqQlHLUyMQq4DzTcC0B-txYXlWd8tkkXzAB3w/viewform?usp=send_form We definitely plan on continuing our traditional pot luck finale and will look forward for a big celebration with all the league members. Location: As you are aware, we are in the midst of moving to a new location. Not to worry it is still in the same neighbourhood. Some finer features will be the fact that it is a solo building with its own parking lot situated on a cul de sac. Our agility hall will be much larger with the only downside being that there are pillars in the room. (Not to worry – they will be padded!) The first house league event on Nov 16th will be at our current building on Ingram Dr, with all other subsequent meet ups taking place at the new building on 47 Gurney Crescent. News Flash ~ All About Dogs Agility “Field Trips”! New this year! Dog Agility Ontario has invited All About Dogs to coordinate with them to encourage our fledgling agility competitors to join their fabulous trials. As a result, I have arranged our house league events to allow us to go as a group to attend the trials. DAO has offered to accept our input on what classes they will offer on the days that we can come so as to include classes that suit the AAD students and house league participants. This year I hope to encourage the house league teams to attend the DAO trials together so that you can enter the “arena” surrounded by the support of your class and team mates. If you think you would be interested in attending any of the DAO trials to participate or observe, then save the following Sundays in your calendar: January 11th , February 1st, March 8th and April 12th. Dog Agility Ontario is a very relaxed organization and offer their trials in the McCann’s beautiful indoor arena. This is a heated arena with astro turf flooring (we love it there!!) and is located in the Flamborough area, just north of Hamilton. Let the games begin!! Renee & Brittany
