All children are adversely affected when their developmental need - TopicsExpress

All children are adversely affected when their developmental need for movement is forgotten - but for boys in general, who require more movement to develop healthily, our collective forgetfulness, ignorance and unheedfulness of this issue is persistently and insidiously undermining their physical, emotional and intellectual health. Schools and educators that do not deeply understand this issue will inadvertently undermine their students. Fidgeting is a real problem. It is a strong indicator that children are not getting enough movement throughout the day. We need to fix the underlying issue. Recess times need to be extended and kids should be playing outside as soon as they get home from school. Twenty minutes of movement a day is not enough! They need hours of play outdoors in order to establish a healthy sensory system and to support higher-level attention and learning in the classroom. washingtonpost/blogs/answer-sheet/wp/2014/07/08/why-so-many-kids-cant-sit-still-in-school-today/
