All farmers in this area excelled at producing one thing in particular, ROCKS! Every spring as farmers plowed their fields, they had an overabundance of rocks of various sizes. When turning the fields with the plows, rocks are brought to the surface. Before farmers could harrow the fields, the kids moved the rocks to the edge of the field or added to the rock walls around the homes. Plowing the field tills the ground and then harrowing the field breaks up any clumps and smooths the soil. The fields are then ready to be planted. Sorghum will soon be planted in this field at the Mountain Farm Museum.
