His father was a successful entrepreneur who scoffed at the choice of his son’s course – history honours. All Madhur had to do was scrape through a degree through correspondence – even that wasn’t necessary – and take over the reins from his father who was getting old now. His father owned the biggest diamond outfit in the neighbourhood that drew customers from all over the city. Now why would he need to actually study in a college, his father would never comprehend. And history honours? Madhur’s idea of life was simple. Ria. He’d met her in his school the year before and fallen in love couple of weeks later. Ria wasn’t really the prettiest girls around but she had a very pleasant persona. Madhur loved her voice; there was a soft and melodious edge to it and a lovely cadence in its flow. She had a sweet, lit-up face accentuated by big eyes, a wide forehead, and red cheeks the colour of a ripe tomato. Ria would make friends with almost everyone instantly and had a clean heart.
