All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do - TopicsExpress

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing - often attributed to Edmond Burke. Its true- evil thrives in the absence of good, just as ignorance flourishes in the absence of knowledge. Until recently, I used to run an EMS Facebook page, with the goals of educating people and driving the ignorance, arrogance and stupidity that harms our customers from our practice. In doing so, I alienated some of the EMS evangelicals and their brand of change. Thats no loss, thats just refusing to buy into a cult. I wish them tne best, but see no future in what they do. Kelly Grayson, Wes Ogilvie, Matthew Whitt, Johnathan Blautman, Jeff Poland, Robert Hub and some others may be smart and educated and passionate, but that doesnt make them right, effective or even relevant. Theyre the televangalists of EMS, and I no longer believe in their brand of crap. They preach a path that is doomed to fail. They are the EMS equivalent of the F-35 program: bloated, ineffective and useless shot through with faint bolts of potential and promise. Real change in this industry relies on more than degree requirements, scope-of-practice changes and Skip Kirkwoods Field EMS Bill of Hot Potato or another acronym group. It relies on us in American EMS assuming personal responsibility for our own futures, opening up new revenue streams and innovating our way out of a minimum-wage entry-level retards of health care position to something that actually holds attractiveness as a serious career. It doesnt mean we as a profession should coddle the weak and ignorant and acknowledge every stakeholder and excuse as being valid or equal. It means we need to find a way to mimic the F-16 program and really own prehospital emergency medicine, whatever that means. I accepted reality and I closed EMS Issues to stave off possible professional consequences in the future. That doesnt mean that I dont have opinions or that I have given up on my crusade to improve EMS so I can make a living doing what I enjoy. It just means Ive grown up some and Im not going to argue with blowhards on the Internet.
