All the 11 Naivasha MCAs want the Management of its water company - TopicsExpress

All the 11 Naivasha MCAs want the Management of its water company overhauled for alleged failure to deliver services. Led by their Chairman Wanyoike Wanango of Lake View Ward, the MCAs want the Naivasha water company Managing Director George Gichana removed. Wanango said before Gichana took over the leadership of Naivasha Water and Sanitation Company water was flowing aplenty and repairs and maintenance undertaken on time. He said for the last eight years when the MD took over residents have suffered immensely. Gichanas term expires this month and we have told the Governor that we do not want him back, said Wanango. He charged that sometimes ago the national government gave NAWASSCO Sh 270m but nothing tangible was implemented as water is still scarce all over the sub-county. 75% of manholes in the town remain open to the skies posing danger to residents and leading to sewer blockages that are seldom repaired stated the angry MCA. To make matters worse Gichana recently convened an AGM of the company and failed to invite local leaders like MCAs, MPs and chamber of commerce plus other stakeholders. Leadership is participatory but this man operates like a lone ranger so he must go if Naivasha people are to get water, he added. Nakuru County Water Minister Richard Rop said he is aware of the complaints and has already met the MCAs. In fact we are in the process of advertising for the position so that we get a suitable person to run that company he said.
