All the classes were doing are done. So Im sitting down and - TopicsExpress

All the classes were doing are done. So Im sitting down and reflecting for a moment. This will be a fairly long and somewhat rambling post so I will apologize ahead of time. I came into this stressed out, somewhat panicked, and feeling completely unprepared. As soon as we arrived Sunday evening, Julie Alonzo met us, made us feel very welcome, and even took the time to show us around. We played around a bit on Monday, showed the girls around, met some wonderfully sweet and kind people, especially Twila Godinez, her crew, the awesome vendors at The Iberian Connection, and our fun and funny neighbor, Steve. The vast majority of folks have been friendly, kind, helpful, generous, and more then willing to help a newbie. SO AWESOME!!! Tuesday, I felt like I was flying blind with less then 2 hours sleep that morning with Besas first class. Was pretty much on the verge of tears while waiting to start even though Dena was trying to settle me down a bit and, of course, I was first up in the class lineup. The ring master was kind and guided me through the class by signaling where I needed to go and always offering a reassuring smile and thumbs up. Besa ended up with Reserve Champion in that class. Then we sat for a while and waited for the sport horse classes to start. In meantime, Carmen, Julie, Sonia, Alexie, Penny, and their hubbys all came to root for us and show support. SO APPREACIATED!!! I learned a lot doing the sport horse classes and got to relax a bit doing something I was a but more familiar with. Both girls ended up in the top five in their sport horse classes. Yesterday it was a bit more relaxed though the day seemed to fly by. Today, nerves started again but I had them more under control. I feel like I let Tesora down a bit in my novice handling Skills for her halter class but she still ended with Reserve Champion. From the very first night, the girls, mind you theyre both only just babies and this is both of their very first away from home / over night show, have been very well behaved and settled into stall life quite well. Both have even been comfortable and settled enough go lay down and nap regularly. Even with other horses screaming and chaos, theyve stayed respectably calm and cool. Im extremely proud of them both. And then Dena, who tried to hide her own nerves, and Cita, this being her first away show since moving to Texas, they both did so so so well being in the top 5 of their class!! Soooo proud!!!! And, if the horses werent enough, I got to spend the week with 2 of my favorite people in the world!!! Tomorrow is my last day here. Ill stay and watch the classes but will be headed home at some point and the girls will return to the herd and pasture life. This has been a truly fabulous week and I am thrilled I didnt back out! :-D
