“All the meetings that the councillors are in attendance shall be done in Chichewa. This will improve the communication and aid understanding in the process,” he said. The District commissioner’s advice comes barely two weeks after the elected Nsanje district council chairperson, Councilor Mabvuto Kamba warned the district council against taking advantage of their educational background to be manipulating financial records. Kamba warned the secretariat saying despite the fact that most of them are not educated enough, the situation should not be taken for granted. “Let me assure you that we will work hand in hand with one purpose, which is developing the district. But as you are aware of our educational background, please do not take advantage of the situation to use technical terms if we are to be kept abreast of the transactions taking place within the council. “For instance, on issues of finances and other relevant information, you have to use simple and straight forward language to aid our understanding,” urged the elected chair. According to unconfirmed sources, none of the ten Nsanje district councillors possess at least a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
