All too often, parents hold themselves back from pursuing their individual dreams because they have responsibilities to their children. They dont want their children to feel neglected and abandoned. But sometimes there is a way to remain connected, while still actualizing ones own callings. My parents both sacrificed elements of their own paths for their children. I am not sure it helped anyone. They ended up bitter and regretful, and denied their children two essential things- (1) an opportunity to see self-realization modeled to us, and (2) the confidence building that comes from being inextricably linked to an actualized legacy. Yes there can be something beautiful about sacrificing our individual path for others, but seeing a parent become all that they are meant to become may well give the kids the boost they need to believe in their own possibilities.
