All week I have been reading everyone’s posts about who and what they are thankful for. I would like to share my lifetime of gratefuls in this one post. Eight years ago today, I was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident. My injuries were significant and the outcome was uncertain for some time. After 5 surgeries, 10+ months of using a wheel chair and crutches, 24 months of physical therapy, and countless prayers, I’m thankful that I had skilled, loving and caring professionals guided by God’s hands to help me become whole again. During this time I learned a lot of things about my family, friends and especially myself. I found that I loved and needed my husband more than I ever imagined and that my Mom has the strength of a rock and the heart of an angel. My children were more devoted than I could have ever dreamed and made me so proud by the way they took care and fussed over me. My family and friends were there for me no matter what. They tended to my needs, made sure that I was taken care of and always provided the strength and support that I needed. My wonderful friends prepared meals, donated leave, visited and made sure that I knew that I was going to be okay. This event put a tremendous strain on my family both physically and emotionally, but not once did they ever make me feel that I was a burden or an inconvenience. I guess I feel the need to share this because first and foremost, I am so grateful for everyone that I have been blessed to share my life with. My wounds have healed, but the scars remind me that even though life can be difficult at times, your faith, love and trust will always see you through. And as a side note, I just want everyone to know that family and friends are so important and not to let the trivial everyday things stand in the way of showing someone how much they are loved and needed. Drama comes and goes in everyone’s life, but it’s those that are closest to you that are there through it all….and for this I am truly grateful.
