All weekend, along with other concerned Canadians we have been bearing witness to whats currently happening in the St. Lawrence river. TransCanada is conducting seismic activity near Cacouna, QC to pave the way for the Energy East pipeline. Belugas are believed to calve in the Cacouna area in the late spring and early summer. Seismic testing involves sound shocks reaching 230 decibels emitted under water. Sound at this level could seriously damage the hearing of a Beluga whale. The Belugas hearing and sonar senses are critical to their sense of direction and orientation under water. Read how scientists are saying the Energy East pipeline could negatively affect the St. Lawrence Beluga population. fw.to/WfK1oFN
