Allahuakbar!!! A chillingly powerful point raised by br Hasan Mahfooz on surah qariah, May Allah swt protect us from the fire ameen. Picturesqueness in the Quran: Surah Al Qariah 101:8-8 The common translation of the verses in question is: 101:8 But as for one whose scales are light, 101:9 His refuge (Ummuhu) will be an abyss (Hawiyah). If we take a closer look, we find that the actual meaning of the verse is much more profound than the apparent. Hawiyah is one of the Quranic names for hell. The root of the word Hawiyah denotes fall, thus representing the embodiment in the afterlife of the fall of this world. Those who fail to perform good deeds fall from their lofty position they could have kept had they performed good deeds! Thus, the evil doers will be thrown into the Haawiyah - the abyss The word refuge is a translation of ummuhu (his mother) which has been used in an ironic sense. A panicked terrified child runs into its mothers arms for refuge and consolation . On the Day of Judgement those whose scales have few good deeds in them will find no refuge anywhere against Allahs punishment; they will be lovingly embraced by Hawiah - their mother.
