Allahuakhbar - Surinam, Moslem 45% drop to 15%...Poor Java Bhai...what a sad news which I received from Malaysia Masturat Jamaah in Surinam... Moslem Javanist in Surinam easly change their religion to Christian. Surinam Story Sharing some news from Suriname where we are now for 2 months in ladies jamat. Suriname has about 245 masjid all over the country. But sad to say that only the elderly people come for solat, and that is barely about 7-8 people only. Young people dont come to masjid. We have to look for them in the field or at their houses. Even the Javanese people were divided into several groups i.e. true qiblat, wrong qiblat, true qiblat but with old tradition and also the Wahabi (because their ustaz used to study in Madinah). Most of the masjid were full only on Thursday night - as of the Javanese tradition. They get together and eat on this night. Mostly dont even pray, they just come for food only. Here we can see with our own eyes how a Javanese family had their parents as Muslim, but their son, daughter or in-laws were mixed of Christian, Hindu or Buddhist. Religion is not really the main concern here. They can change their religion as they like. So called religious parents too (because they have performed hajj) could not do anything upon their childrens choice. This is how the condition of Islam in Suriname. So it is not a surprise that last 10 years there were 25% Muslim population here, but now it has drastically drop to just merely 12%. Many young Javanese (esp. those who face wrong qiblat) have turned to other religion which they see more easier to practice. Even the missionaries making strong effort on this community from house to house to invite the Javanese people to believe in Jesus. As for the masjid, those who come are the one who registered with that particular masjid. They might stay about 4-5km from that masjid. They dont go to the nearest masjid. This is the challenge for us to face in Suriname. Our biggest challenge here is to get a house nearby our masjid who are willing to receive our wives to stay there. It is yet to be their tradition to open their houses for strangers. But alhamdulillah, we managed to open at least 2 Javanese houses so far. So we invited the local women nearby to attend womans programs that were held in those houses. Alhamdulillah, few old women came and they learn syahadah and al-fatihah with our wives. I think thats all for now. We have another 40 days to go. Please continue to make doa for us. Salaam hidayah from us in Suriname.
