Allianz Football League Div. 1 Kerry 1-11 Cork 2-18 Cork ended any slim chances Kerry had of making a semi final place when winning with ease at Austin Stack Park on Sunday afternoon. Kerry had first use of the strong wind that blew into the scoreboard end and the first 15 minutes or so were evenly contested as the sides swapped scores regularly with James O’Donoghue and Stephen O’Brien looking dangerous for the homeside and ominously, Brian Hurley causing havoc in the Kerry defence getting 3 points in that period which saw the sides on level terms, 4 points each. Fintan Goold and Hurley again, put Cork clear but then a great passing movement ended with Paul Geaney finishing to the net to put Kerry in front in the 29th minute. Darren O’Sullivan replaced Donnchadh Walsh and after John Hayes and Paul Geaney swapped points , Paul Kerrigan cut in from the right to slam the ball to the net to put Cork 1-7 to 1-6 in front at the break. Johnny Buckley replaced Anthony Maher on the restart and within a minute Darren O’Sullivan pulled up in full flight and was replaced by Bryan Sheehan. Cork took the initiative from the start with four unanswered points before Daithí Casey replied for the homeside in the 45th minute. Cork had another two points without reply followed by a fine goal from Colm O’Neill and two more unanswered points all by the 52nd minute, including three points from Hurley who was rampant by now. David Moran and Bryan Sheehan replied for Kerry, but Cork added another three points to two in reply both from James O’Donoghue frees to run out easy winners. Cork now play Dublin in the semi finals with Derry and Mayo in the other semi.
