Almost 20 years ago I absolutely did nothing wrong. Still I had a police officer tackle me, place me in a choke hold, mace me, then proceeded to strike me with his baton all of this culminating with him pulling out his service weapon and stating, Im going to shoot this nigger. Mind you this was in Cumberland. Subsequently I was charged with everything from assault on a police officer to stealing a can of mace. Fortunately I had white witnesses testify that the officer initiated the unprovoked contact with me and I was acquitted. Other witnesses testified that this officer used the nigger word on several other occasions... I can only imagine the countless others who werent so fortunate as I was to avoid being railroaded.. So Im sorry if I dont have the same sentiment as many of you who believe the victim must have done something wrong to warrant the polices actions... Nor am I going to take their account of events as if its the gospel... People dont have to do things that are perceived to be wrong by the police.. They can simply be bystanders targeted by over zealous and racially motivated police officers... Also as a side note.... The first trial in the above referenced matter was thrown out because one of the jurors used the word nigger in previous jury deliberations... I was fortunate enough to know 2 white jury members that came forward and disclosed this information.. So I know from first hand experience people are convicted on the basis of race and not the actual crime they may or may not have committed...
