Almost 20 years ago, we gave up our Ration Card, under the conviction that food subsidies were meant for the poor and we should not exploit such benefits when we could afford it. We have had to convince people, especially those demanding it for identity proof, that it was not a crime to not have one, it was a choose foolishly given by the government to everyone! Now, I am tempted to fall in line with this subsidy too..... But twenty years have made me wiser, I wont give in so easily. I am sure I must and I will, but only after I am certain that all the politicians, the multi-crorepati MPs and MLAs we have elected to the parliament, all the senior executives who run these oil companies have done it first. Bloody hell, that I will want to pay for the subsidies they will continue to enjoy.... Oil firm executives say the list of customers opting out of subsidy would publicly expose the rich and powerful who want to hang on to benefits meant for the poor and ignore text messages saying: Give up your LPG subsidy and be part of nation-building movement to provide subsidised cooking fuel only to needy.
