Almost a year ago, I joined hands with those who, alike me, wanted to ensure that a system that investigates and prosecutes justly and freely can continue to exist in this country. Nanda Prasad Adhikari and Ganga Maya had their way of asking the Government what it should have done for its citizens. They starved themselves for months just to get the government to try their murdered sons case. It was just that they wanted. A TRIAL. I understand that post-conflict countries have a way of getting things done, enormous pressure to piece the nation together, to promise a better future for all, to strive and compromise and rebuild. I understand that my government is trying and we have constraints. BUT we could afford to get these grieving parents a trial. We could have done it before Nanda Prasad Adhikari had to die for it today. Since when did justice get so expensive. Rest in Peace Nanda Prasad Adhikari. This is an indelible stain on a post-conflict emerging Nepal. We could have done better. The human rights activists, defenders, government and all nonchalant us, we could have done better.
