Almost came home with the win but fell short it was a hard long battle but brought car home in one piece n gonna fight back next friday!!!! Toledo, Ohio—June 21, 2013: Howard Kelley Jr., Robbie Loving, Dennis Whisman and David Price were victorious Friday night at Toledo Speedway. Marco’s Pizza and Qualite Sports Lighting Systems sponsored the race card at the ½ mile paved oval on a warm evening. Chef Marco was on hand to greet the fans! Joe Mouch, representing Marco’s, presented the trophies in the Sun Drop Winner’s Circle. Qualite provided $50 gift cards to each of the feature winners. The 35 lap ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman feature saw 17 cars start the main event. The fans were treated to a sensational battle the entire distance. Howard Kelley Jr. grabbed the lead on the green flag, wrestling away the point from Norm Lewallen. Kelley set the pace as the first 21 laps ran with just 1 yellow flag. Ron Allen, Mike Young, Jim Froling and Kyle DeLisle Jr. battled in a pack, with Young taking over the number 2 spot and set up a tremendous race with Kelley for the top spot. That duo traded the lead at least 7 times over the course of the final 14 laps of the event. Young would nose out front in the outside lane, drift just a bit in the corner, giving Kelley the edge to sneak back by on the inside groove. Back and forth they went, enduring 3 double-file restarts that kept the lead duo trading the lead. With 5 to go on the final restart, Kelley nosed out front and stayed to take the big victory. Young’s great run gave him second, Froling was third, DeLisle Jr. fourth and Allen fifth, JJ Haley was sixth, right with the top five. Kent McCloskey, Lewallen, Greg Stilwell and Andy Harding completed the top ten. Fast time for the night was set by DeLisle Jr. at 17:221. Heat race winners were Greg Stillwell and Kenny McKay Jr. Young took the 4 car dash victory. Robbie Loving captured the 20 lap ARCA Parts Galore Figure 8 feature event that was filled with plenty of intersection traffic, much to the delight of the crowd. On lap 14 the red flag flew when part of Archie Padgett’s bumper came loose after being clipped by Loving at the intersection. That erased Robbie’s big lead over Dennis Whisman, but Loving motored away on the restart to score the win. Whisman, Dan Apperson, Jerry Lee, Randy Roberts, Ian Jezylo, Archie Padgett and Stephanie Bradley were next in line at the stripe. Apperson was the heat race winner. There was plenty of action in the 25 lap ARCA & M Recycling X Car feature event on the short track. Great battles throughout the field made competition for a top five finish challenging. Through it all, Whisman, pulling double-duty on the night, took the lead on lap 6 from Matt Ringger and sailed to the win, his first in X Car competition. Greg Studt was second, Tommy O’Leary made a late race charge to take third, Rich Frantz was fourth and Ringger fifth, followed by Brian Ringger, Rick Cousino, Archie Padgett, Kevin Huston, James McClure, Jacob Thomas and Jeff King. Studt set quick time with a lap of 11:727. Heat race victories went to O’Leary and Matt Ringger. David Price sailed to the win in the 20 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder race over John Decker and David Katafiasz. Katafiasz set fast time at 12:788, but had mechanical troubles in the feature race. Friday, June 28 is the annual Teamsters/Union Night. The track has also joined forces with PNC Bank to offer a $5 discount on admission to any fan that brings a new book to donate to be a “Champion for Childhood Literacy” on the June 28 race night. It’s also Armed Forces Night, with all military, both active and retired, admitted FREE (Please show military ID at the ticket window upon arrival to the track). The ARCA ACME Dismantling Sportsman cars will tackle the ½ mile paved oval, with the short track action provided by the ARCA R & M Recycling X Cars and the MCR Dwarf Cars! The pit area will open at 3:30, practice begins at 5 and the front gates will also open at 5. Time trials begin at 6:15 and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. The track phone number is 419-727-1100.
