Aloha from Waikiki, With North Buncombe High School soon to arrive in Hawaii to represent the State of North Carolina in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, our reporter, James Matthews, has traveled there to cover their experience as well as have a couple of experiences of his own. Today, he visited the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor. Here are some of the pictures from that trip. Among the interesting things seen today was an Japanese A6M2 Zero fighter like those used during the attack on Pearl Harbor 73 years ago. Nearby, several historical aircraft, including US Navy helicopters, an US Air Force Korean War-era fighter called the F-86 Saber and its Soviet counterpart, the MIG-17. While waiting for transportation to the museum, a US Marine Corps band held a surprise jam session for folks waiting nearby. Stay tuned to our page as we share our trip with you.
