Alone Time Luke 5:16 “As often as possible [Christ] withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer” Luke 5:16 (MSG). When I look at the life of Christ, I find the perfect example of how I should live my life—fully connected with God. Regardless of my dilemma, Christ’s example and the wealth of godly advice His life provides has never failed to lead me in the right direction—straight to God. In today’s me-me-me world, we are constantly bombarded with the question, “What have you done for yourself recently?” The world pushes us to focus on ourselves, making sure we have everything we need, everything we want, everything we can imagine. But, when I look at the life of Christ, I see something very different. His ministry focused fully on others and serving them. However, this gem of a verse speaks to another side of Christ, a side that we often overlook: He frequently took time to be alone, but not to focus on Himself (as the world would have us do); instead, He took time to build His relationship with His Father. He took time to communicate with the One from Whom His strength flowed. And this private prayer wasn’t a one-time occurrence; Luke makes it clear that Christ took the time to spend one-on-one time with His Father “as often as possible.” The time He spent in out-of-the-way places was the time He spent building the foundation of His life. This was His time to lean on His Rock. This was His time to reconnect with the Source of His Strength. This was the secret to His success—a robust relationship with God. Yes, when I look at the life of Christ, I find the perfect example of how I should live my life—fully connected with God. So, the next time you’re feeling rundown or you’re feeling like your life is a little out of control or you’re feeling like you need some alone time, remember this verse and take time to reconnect to the Source of your Strength—GOD!
