Along the lines of the pretty/beautiful post I referenced - TopicsExpress

Along the lines of the pretty/beautiful post I referenced recently, and why I avoid telling female children that (even if I think theyre gorgeous). I never thought I was pretty growing up. And I wasnt (please tell me, if you knew me during that time and thought otherwise). I was nerdy and awkward, my most defining traits being my bangs, my over-sized glasses, and my braces. I wasnt allowed to wear makeup, and didnt start wearing it until halfway through college. I never wore cool clothes, and spent my days buried in books. Having never been distracted to dwell on the physical, what I was able to develop was a high sense of creativity, a desire to excel to exceed expectations (Competitive. Driven.), a capacity to learn about everything surrounding me, and the knowledge that I was self-reliant, independent and CAPABLE. The physical traits and poise came later in life, once my self-values and worth were already established. I wouldnt have had it any other way.
