Alright, Accel World is completed and I found a lot about the potential for future virtual reality endeavors that could be a possibility in the not too distant future. The plot, we follow Haruyuki Arita, who is a middle school student in the future, with low self=esteem and is a bit on the short and pudgy side for a protagonist, however, I liked that concept immediately. He is the target of scorn, harassment, and bullying because of his timid nature but he can escape to the virtual world with his Neural Link (A Network Connected Device worn around the neck) that he and anyone born in the previous 15 years would have had since birth. In the virtual world, he has an avatar of a pig... which becomes a clever pun later but he is exceptional at virtual squash and has the highest level and scores on the leaderboard. One day, he finds his score was surpassed by a classmate who is a year older named Kuroyukihime, which translates to Black Snow Princess roughly (a play on the name Snow White), and she invites him to install the Brain Burst program into his neural link. The program puts the users brain into overdrive and results in the illusion of slowing down time but really the mind has just accelerated, AH HA... the title makes sense! So now with this ability he learns that its uses are limited and that to keep it, he must fight other Burst Linkers and win their points in virtual combat or risk losing the program and its potential to aid in making his life better. Enough plot, there is a lot of detail that is covered in the series but it is covered very well, at least for Gamers and Technologically minded individuals. Now, because I like the concept of Sword Art Online, I will say that this is basically the continuation of that plot, NERV gear is even the precursor to the Neural Link as it is explained briefly in an episode. Now the idea of being able to accelerate the mind is not impossible, in fact, if you have ever thought about anything and been unable to react with your body quickly enough, then you should know what I mean. Example - Thinking about what you want to say and yet your mouth cant keep up, or having multiple thoughts in a single instant. The idea of speeding up the brain to where a mere second would take the equivalent of an hour to pass is an amazing concept, our knowledge could grow exponentially in mere seconds versus taking weeks or years to accomplish the same task. This has been a long review, I apologize but I never like simple stuff but this was brilliant and well done all around. This is an Action/Romance/Comedy Anime but it had time to develop and enough information to keep the viewer on track and tied into the next segment.
