Alright, Alright, Alright, Alright Just want to share an E-Mail from a very good friend of Peggy Ratusz, and myself. Dear Friends and Neighbors, When Marguerite and I retired to Asheville four years ago, we quickly indulged in the wonderful world of live music here in the Paris of the South. I was floored by the top-shelf quality of many of the acts, two of whom - Al Coffee McDaniel and Peggy Chanteuse Ratusz - have become our dearest friends. So let me bring to your attention (if you do not already know) that Coffee and the Chanteuse have several gigs coming up that will enhance your holiday festivities. This really hits home if you have holiday visitors to entertain. Peggy Ratusz is fronting Merry Christmas Baby tomorrow night (Dec. 21) at Isis in West Asheville. This is one of the finest sound venues in town, and Peggy will be joined by an all-star array of vocalists and musicians, including Coffee, Duane Daddy Longlegs Simpson, Aaron Price, Jesse Barry, Eileen Kennedy, Pat Armitage, and Michael Hynes. They hit the music - jazz, blues, and swing - at 8 PM. Al McDaniel and his band, Coffee and Da Grind, are on a hot roll at the moment, and with good reason. Last October, the band went down to Charlotte as Ashevilles representative at the Q-City BBQ Championships and they won the whole damn thing! Now its on to Memphis Jan 20 - 23 for prestigious International Blues Challenge. There are several local events upcoming to help the band cover travel and lodging expenses. You must check Da Grind out. They are getting tighter and tighter with every gig, like a hot team going into the playoffs. Besides Coffee on sultry vocals and tasty guitar, its Steve Davidowski on energetic horns and keys, Jeff Simmons bouncing underneath on bass, and Jeff Rudolph bringing the sticks and kicks. Here are the dates for Al Coffee and the Grind: Tonight at Tressas, Asheville, 10 PM Sunday, Jan. 4 at the Double Door, Charlotte, 9-10:30 * Thursday, Jan. 8 at Isis, West Asheville, 9 PM * Sunday, Jan 11 at Tressas, 5 - 10 PM * Thursday, Jan 15 at Isis, West Asheville, 9 PM * * band fundraiser Marguerite and I hope to run into all yall over the next few weeks. Have a merry and a happy. Peace out, Joe
