Alright, I was given #20. Twenty?!!!!! Youre going to learn a lot about the Brookster. 1) My grandpa planted a willow tree on my first birthday at my childhood home. It was the longest living willow in Clay County, I swear. It lived until the new owners cut it down. Im not bitter that they cut it down....well Im a little bitter. But I got a beautiful clock made from its wood and it will stay with me forever. 2) In college - and even today - Im known as the human jukebox. Give me a song, almost any song, Ill likely know it! 3) One of my favorite jobs ever was being a parking attendant at the Fargodome. Super fun college job! 4) Im a nail biter. I dont have the prettiest hands, but my nails dont get in the way when Im tickling the ivories. 5) Speaking of piano.....I started playing at 4 years old on the Suzuki Method. I couldnt touch the floor from the piano bench, but my short little fingers could play. And everything was by ear. 6) I played piano for 4 years before I ever learned how to read music. Which is funny because I have been teaching littles to read music for 19 years now! 7) I could live off of chips and salsa. Not just any salsa. Mexican Village salsa and chips. Oh and beer. 8) We had cinnamon bathroom spray in our college dorm bathroom. I cant STAND cinnamon spray now. 9) I love high school football. I could take or leave the NFL. But I love high school football. 10) When I was young I used to dream of being a soap opera star when I grew up. Mostly, I wanted to be a Brady on Days of our Lives. 11) Five years ago I was panicked Reid was sick with cancer or leukemia and was relieved when it was diabetes. And maybe, because I prepared for the absolute worst, weve managed to maintain a pretty good attitude about this whole thing. If you cant beat it laugh at it! 12) Hard to believe. I was a writer as a kid. Always writing short stories. Nobody ever read them. But I wrote all of the time. All. The. Time. 13) I was stubborn as a mule and got more time outs than my first grader. Many lock downs in the bedroom. Where, instead of playing with my toys I would write hate mail. Shame! And my parents would laugh at the letters and tack on FIVE MORE MINUTES! 14) My dad tormented me with his harmonica. No lie. He has quite a set list. Its surprising I still like Joy to the World. 15) I absolutely adored my Grandpa Abbie. I spent countless hours traveling the back roads of Clay And Becker county listening to good old country music. George Jones and Merle Haggard and Hank Sr can seriously make me cry. 16) I was privileged to have one of the greatest Great Grandmas. I got so much out of Lillians big heart and her tiny apartment. Two things she always said that I have come back to many times these last few years I am who I am and Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. I am who I am, and nothing is impossible for me. 17) I had approximately one million nicknames growing up. Brookshire and Fishy Fishy in the Brooke were two that stuck for my entire growing up years. Brookey, brooka, Brookins, brookie baby, Brooklyn, river, stream, blah blah blah. 18) My dad offered me $1000 cash if I could make it to 21 without drinking. I made it through high school. But wow, I failed immediately after. He was taking it to the bank when he busted me the summer of 1997. 19) I babysat Alex when I was in high school. I became his step mom after college. Strange! I swear to you! Legit, though, Chuck and I didnt date until I was in college. :) 20) I love traditional Christmas music only. Not the jingle bells and Santa Claus crap, only good, quality, CHRISTmas music.
