Alright everyone, here it is: I saw Annie so you dont have to. Or you can. Whatever. I went in with low expectations and heres what I thought. While it does have a good handful of in-jokes and Easter eggs sprinkled throughout for those Annie die-hard fans (the intro is one of the best), its not enough to make up for the brand new or majorly changed songs and odd plot. The first half of the movie is brought to you by the people who made Stomp and the Cups Song. The climax was pretty lame and out there. The most awkward part of it though, for me, is how painfully consciously aware the characters are that they live in a musical world where people break out into song and dance, like its commonplace. Every other song someone is commenting on it. THAT BEING SAID, I can see how this is a cute kids movie. Its like when we were all criticizing Peter Pan Live. It may be bad, but be glad at least someones producing musicals for the masses, and think of all the children watching this story with gleeful wonderment for the first time. So heres my verdict: Make your choice. You can either introduce your kids to one of the earlier more faithful movies and never speak of this one again, or let them see this one and theyll still probably have a good time.
