Alright friends, heres the deal. I know all of my Cotsen people - TopicsExpress

Alright friends, heres the deal. I know all of my Cotsen people have already seen this, but I dont know if any of my other friends in academia (or the arts, for that matter) have caught this yet. Paul Ryan just introduced his budget proposal FY 2015: apps.washingtonpost/g/page/politics/house-budget-committee-chairman-paul-ryans-fy-2015-budget-blueprint/905/ Heres the thing. On page 51, you can see that part of this budget is killing off the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), among other organizations. I currently work on an NEH funded project, so this hits pretty close to home. Now I am not telling anyone to do anything on my behalf (I have already sent in my letter of support for the NEH), but I wanted to get this information out there in case people had not seen it. The NEH does a lot of good work, and a lot of its funds go beyond simply funding humanities research. At my project for instance, we are working in partnership with an organization called the Society for Humanitarian Archaeological Research and Investigation (SHARE). SHARE is an outreach organization that works towards a common ground initiative by engaging Israeli and Palestinian youths with each other and their heritage via archaeological excavations. As you can see, an NEH funded project goes much further than simply providing funding for our dig. So, heres the link to the NEH website that plugs your support directly for the endowment: cqrcengage/nhalliance/home This is a form letter, it takes about a minute to fill in the requisite information. If you dont like the form letter, but still support the NEH, you can obviously send in your own letter to the relevant representative or senator. Also, perhaps just share this with other people. My department got the word out through its listserv, and I likely would have missed this otherwise. It was a long one, I know, but thanks for reading. -Jacob
