Alright, guys. Get ready for it. Are you ready?!?!!??!!! No seriously, you might not be ready. Get READY. This announcement is gunna be GOOD. And you should share this status. I had a dream over a month ago that made me realize I need to start a traveling free music school on a bus. I had been thinking about this as a distant future idea but all of the signs have fallen together and my inspiration level and health and motivation and mental state and location and every aspect of my reality is perfectly aligned and I feel totally powerful right now and the guidance has just been showing up, all day every day, that I need to do this right away. So heres the deal. If you read my last post you saw that I have been playing accordion in the top of a banyan tree in downtown St. Pete. That spot is ideal because its got the most incredible banyan trees, it is right where TONS of people come by all day every day, and its totally beautiful and people love having artistic things going on there. Ive got some friends who want to have some music lessons from me already and jam, so I am going to start doing open participation free music lessons in that park under the banyan trees and make a sign about it and just invite anybody who is interested walking by to join us in learning some music and jamming with everyone. We will collect drums and drum-like objects and instruments and set a time every week to do it so people can bring their instruments, and this way we will magnetize all of the right people to begin the music school and then we can together make a Kickstarter video to raise money to get a bus and fix it up and furnish and paint it, convert it to a vegetable oil engine, outfit it with a good karaoke setup and disco lights and whatnot. I met someone who knows a bus for sale the other day, and I met someone who gave me contact info for a studio that might help us do our Kickstarter video, and a bunch of other awesome people who either might be interested in joining this bus or who know people who can help out with something for it. Everybody I have brought this up to loves the idea and wants to help. YEAHH!!!! Anyway, once we get on the road, my vision is to travel around and have a good dedicated core group of about five ish people, and be a really badass a cappella group/band, but have plenty of space to bring along other people, be they aspiring musicians who want to learn, musicians who want to teach, cooks or hitchhikers or cool people who we meet who feel an impulsive hair and want to try traveling, or whatever. We will perform in cities and rage up donations, we will spend time visiting intentional communities, alternative schools (I already have a couple of connections with places that want us to come there once this is started up), rainbow gatherings, communes, healing centers, festivals -- pretty much anywhere that wants us I suppose -- and teach and learn music to/from/with the people there. We can spend two or three months at some places to really immerse ourselves in the community and get involved and then move on to more fund raising followed by another cool community for a while, and so on. I want to use music to build community, and community to build music. And learn the ways that lots and lots of different people use music in community, and spread those ways around. Anybody diggin this idea and think it sounds like something you might be interested in joining? I am specifically looking for a bus mechanic to join the team, as well as anybody with musical training, especially music education or music therapy training, or experience teaching music, but even if you just want to learn some music and are in a very inspired and passionate and creative time in your life and want to do some traveling, I am looking for the right people to build an effective community on the road. Inspiration and passion to co-create are non-negotiable qualifications. And there are other roles besides music teacher that are necessary to run a school, like a cook, public relations facilitator of some kind, and probably other things Im not thinking of right now. Im going to make some information cards to hand out about it or something. And put up posters. If anybody has ideas that might help with this or wants to be involved or contribute financially or in any other way to this cause, hit me up!
