Also on April 22: On this day in 1950, guitarist Peter Frampton was born. https://youtube/watch?v=zLgeTtYwQ7o At 16, he became the front man for mod popsters The Herd, who enjoyed moderate chart success between 1967 and 1968. The following year, he teamed up with ex-Small Faces frontman Steve Marriott to form the hard rocking boogie band Humble Pie. Their live album, Performance Rockin’ The Fillmore, proved to be their breakthrough in the states, but by the time it was issued in 1971, Frampton, frustrated that his songs and vocals were being shoved aside, had quit. While contemplating his next move, he took on some session work, including Doris Troy’s Apple release; Who bassist John Entwistle’s sophomore effort, Whistle Rymes (which also featured Jimmy McCulloch); as well as George’s All Things Must Pass (for which he went uncredited – twice). Framptons solo albums (as Framptons Camel and afterward) didnt sell very well. He toured relentlessly, fine-tuning his formula until it at last clicked. In spring 1976, as Frampton Comes Alive! topped the charts, he found time to drop in on the Rotogravure sessions, contributing lead guitar to the lead-off single, “A Dose Of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
