Although I miraculously endured 20 years in the Navy, serving on - TopicsExpress

Although I miraculously endured 20 years in the Navy, serving on land and sea in Vietnam from 1970-1973, served on a Navy salvage ship in the Invasion of Grenada in October of 1983, and serving abourd the Aircraft Carrier USS Nimitz in the Persian Gulf War in 1988 and 1991, I bluffed my way through most of my Career because the Navy would NOT diagnose and treat me for the PTSD I acquired in Vietnam. I was aboard a Navy Destroyer, the USS Geo. K. MACKENZIE (DD836) off the coast of Vietnam in late 1972 when 3 US AIR FORCE B-52s each dropped 20 (2000-pound) bombs within 2-4 miles from the ship I was stationed on. Each bomb made a crater 1,000 feet across and 100-feet deep. My ship was NOT warned about this bombing raid. A buddy and I wittnessed the entire event, in total disbelief of what we were seeing. We were out on the ships stern as this event unfolded and were knocked to our knees and almost fell overboard whem MASSIVE SHOCKWAVES hit the ship, pushing it sideways. Since that day 42 years ago, I have had EXTREME DIFFICULTY dealing with the LOUD ringing in my head 24/7. Every waking moment of EVERY day is PURE MISERY for me having to cope with this. I literally relive this combat bombing experience every day. The VA has done VERY LITTLE to help me cope with this dilemma. I am lucky to be alive. I want to SCREAM right now to get this awful noise out of my ears; but, if I do that, someone will call the cops. I want anyone who reads this to UNDERSTAND what us COMBAT VETERANS go through EACH AND EVERY DAY. For many of us we relive our combat experiences EVERY DAY. Most military personnel today who come home from combat have limbs missing, which is obvious to the observer. For many of us who returned home from combat, the DAMAGE TO OUR BODIES is (INTERNAL). People who see us think we are OK, brcause they can see all of our limbs attched, but, were not. NO VETERAN WHO WAS PUT IN HARMS WAY, FOR THE SAKE OF OUR FREEDOMS, SHOULD HAVE TO (STRUGGLE) FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS & MEDICAL TREATMENT FROM THE VA, PERIOD. MAY GOD BLESS AND COMFORT ALL OF OUR COMBAT VETERANS AND ALL OTHERS SERVING IN OUR MILITARY BRANCHES.
