Although Tennessee high school graduate’s ACT scores were nothing to be proud of nationally, their performance did improve slightly. The average was up from 19.2% in 2012 to 19.3% in 2013. This marks the third year the average ACT score for Tennessee students has increased, from 19.0 in 2011. Tennessee is one of only nine states to require all high school students take the ACT. The percentage of test-takers meeting all of the ACT’’s college readiness benchmarks rose from 14 percent to 15 percent in Tennessee as scores increased in 2013.
