Although the name The Links, just one of the Fancourt golf - TopicsExpress

Although the name The Links, just one of the Fancourt golf courses, is a golfing term for a specific type of golf course of Scottish origin, the name is very appropriate in many ways. Designed from the start to be environmentally friendly by a far sighted group, successfully linking Man and Nature. A golf course built on degraded land, a site that was originally the George Airport. Now it is a delightful, interesting spot, full of indigenous plants, local animals, local birds, all living in harmony. The Links has achieved Audubon status for their efforts, one of only tow South African golf courses to have achieved the very stringent Audubon requirements, ranging from water management, fertiliser use, plant and animal conservation, education, signage, public outreach and many other. There strong link between the WESSA objectives and those of Audubon, both organisations striving to promote the sustainable use of our only planet, using it but at the same time conserving our natural heritage, our biodiversity. Spencer ....?, Chris....?, their staff, the management of The Links and the original course designers deserve our respect and admiration for what they have achieved here. Of interest is the fact that the water quality leaving the property is better than the the quality entering the property and the course maintenance costs have actually decreased, simply due to working with the natural ecosystems rather than working against them. They are a very practical example of what can be achieved, with economic benefits, and enriching the golfing experience by playing the game in what is becoming a mini nature reserve. All very much in line with WESSAs philosophy, with links to many other local organisations.
