Although these figures are wounded, they must take responsibility for their stories. Preachers, just because they lift a text from the Bible, are not necessarily preaching the “Word of God.” The “Word of God” does not dehumanize and commit emotional and psychic violence to the same humanity that Christ died for. Assaulting an already assaulted people in Jesus’ or any other deity’s name is counterproductive to healing centuries of pain. Rehashing abusive and oppressive hermeneutics (the methodological way a text is interpreted) and theology is as helpful as constantly cutting out stitches every time the cut begins to heal. - See more at: buff.ly/1i7lJkK
