Although this article brings attention to a realistic problem in our communities and it allows some (not all) the voices in the community that matter in this discussion, it is still short sited and a bit tainted with ironic yellow journalism. What this article and video gloss over is our deep political reasons as to why we exist and that our actions are part of what a conscious & politicized chicana/o collective is. In this interview we specifically talked about multi-million corporations like the Fifteen Group that have partnered with large labor organizations and some local non profits to demolish the Wyvernwood Garden Community in Boyle Heights. Instead the reporters felt it better to ignore the huge multi-million dollar elephant in the room, as many other orgs and individuals have chosen to do as well. These multi-million dollar corporations and the approval of these social engineering projects by the neighborhood and city councils are the true threat to our communities. Chicana/os have always organized their own autonomous bases in this city since the beginning of our consciousness and will continue to do so. We commend the work of our compañeros and compañeras in the struggle to fortify their barrios and their cultura, "Adelante"!
