Although we came up a little short in the race for Secretary of State, I could not be more grateful for your support throughout this incredible journey. As a first-time candidate I honestly did not know what to expect -- Would we be able to build a grassroots organization focused on protecting Iowans right to vote? Would this race get much attention given all the other important races in the state? Could we raise the money and be competitive in what would inevitably be a tough year? Without a doubt, because of you and countless others like you we exceeded every expectation I could have possibly imagined. You gave us a fighting chance, and rest assured your effort was not in vain. By the end of the campaign we communicated our message statewide and, perhaps most important, ALL the candidates for Secretary of State were talking about the importance of making it easier to vote. This matters, and I sincerely hope both parties work together over the next four years to return to the bipartisan tradition in Iowa of encouraging all eligible Iowans to participate in our democracy. Although the campaign is over, I have one last request -- remain engaged and keep up the fight. Whether you know it or not, your letters, emails, social media posts and volunteer efforts inspire others around you to do more -- and yes, down the road it will pay off. Finally, if you are passionate about something, and want to make a difference, consider running for office. Trust me, win or lose, you will meet some amazing people who will give you the strength to make it to the finish line.
