Although we can check search engines, there is (or should be) a sense of pride, dignity, confirmation, and accomplishment in stating who brought you into this life, who you brought in to share with us; it is a roll call if you will. Those who were born after the 60s, those who came up during the time of mass destruction of the Black family dont know us, and therefore barely know themselves. So if listing names is too much, lets do facts (or folklore). I will start with these 10, and then someone else can go. Please only include positivity its therapeutic and its ok to repeat, correct, but no negativity: 1) My mothers father once owned a candy store in Inwood, NY. 2) Joel Bing (recently deceased) was once a boxer. 3) My cousin, Corey Roberts grandfather (on his fathers side), made a living as an artist. 4) My brother, Paul D Martin, who retired as US Navy Chief and Professor at Pasadena College, was All County soccer champ in New York State as well as an accomplished wrestler for Hempstead High and has written and published at least one grammar book, probably more. He is almost an artist. 5) My mothers sister, Rosalind Marshall retired from the New York Times, put hetself through college and graduated with an MA in art from Sarah Lawrence and was a philanthropist and humanitarian, and union activist as well as an accomplished artist. She also raised her daughter Sharon Marshall as a single parent, sending her to the same college Jacqelyn Kennedy attended, Vassar. 6) My mother was a dancer who won trophies for doing the swing. 7) My father was a student at Howard University majoring in history until he was drafted off to war. He and my mother eloped to Niagara Falls. 8) Robert Little, our cousin has published at least 10 works of fiction available at a Barnes and Noble near you 9) Wendy Torelli, our cousin, ran for magistrate in W. Virgina and, although defeated, she is the first Black woman to have run. 10) Our cousin, Sharon Marshall is now a tenured assistant professor at City College in NY. She wad also published by Essence magazine and self published a novel.
