Alzheimers disease- Dementia is a loss of brain function that occurs with certain diseases. Alzheimers disease (AD), is one form of dementia that gradually gets worse over time. It affects memory, thinking, and behavior. This is the clinical definition of what me and my family are going though with my mom. We have been aware and dealing with its symptoms for several years now. It has been a slow progression, until now. This year has been extremely painful as she is having difficulty recognizing places, things, and most importantly the man shes been with for over 50 years, my father. I can only imagine the pain he is faced with daily. I check in with both of them every morning but today she forgot her only grandsons name and politely asked me. She, at times, realizes her lapses. I think this frustrates her the most. This morning when she asked Torbetts name it brought me to tears. Ive noticed that for the past 6 months she has been sure to end every phone call with I love you Ron. I respond with I love you to Momma. I hope she can hear me. Im usually not one to share much of my life in social media. Except maybe for the fun status updates and ultra cute pictures of Torbett and Daniel. Last night my husband commented that I had posted a brief article of a painter suffering from Alzheimers and his progression of the disease on canvas. I realized perhaps that I need to share my experience however painful it is for me. Im a huge believer in contrary action. Thank you for reading this, and remember to be gentile and kind to those who love you RTVW
