Am I the only one that only remembers being taught pretty much - TopicsExpress

Am I the only one that only remembers being taught pretty much only about war in history class? What about the people that taught peace? I remember seeing people like Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama etc. in the history books, but no one really taught us very much about them. They say the only way to keep history from repeating itself is to learn the history. But how are we supposed to learn from it if war is all we know? How many people know the story of Socrates? He lived by the philosophy of being able to disable your opponent with a solid argument and logic. Or Siddhartha Gautama, who later became Buddha, who traveled all over teaching people about finding salvation within themselves. Or even Nelson Mandela! Sure, they taught us a little about him, but not nearly enough. He was accused of treason and sentenced to 27 years in prison because he protested how his people were being treated. Then he ended up being the first black president in South Africa in 1994. If were taught war, thats all we know and thats what were going to fall back on. Same goes for peace.
