Am thinking so much of this old hymn and the wisdom of its advice. Count Your Blessings When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed, When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. Refrain Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God hath done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly, And you will keep singing as the days go by. Refrain When you look at others with their lands and gold, Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold; Count your many blessings. Wealth can never buy Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high. Refrain So, amid the conflict whether great or small, Do not be disheartened, God is over all; Count your many blessings, angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end. Refrain So as a reminder to myself (and a testimony to all of you) of God’s faithfulness, let me share some of the blessings in my life of this past week. Monday-received the news that my dear friend Carol has recovered so much from the life threatening stroke/meningitis attack she suffered on June 10th that she can now drive again! What a tremendous answer to prayer. Tuesday-started with a sweet visit from Rose Hockersmith and besides her beautiful presence, she brought a box from a mutual friend. Wednesday-started the morning out with tears of joy as I opened the box Rose had brought the day before and it was FILLED with precious thoughtful gifts, starting with the card explaining how my friend had been impacted years before by the loss of their beloved cabin to fire as well. Each item is a new treasure in our lives (and one of the boxes of chocolate is nearly gone!). Wednesday-my new school area is practically complete with the loveseat from Carmen Thigpen; table from Lisa Forbus; desk, chair and lamp from Nancy Smith; footstool and bookcase purchased from Target and Wal-Mart with gift cards from New Life Church. Thursday-I was able to make it up to DIA to pick up Dave on his way home from a business trip before I-225 was closed to flooding. Was able to make it back via E-470 with no problems. Friday-was able to take my second ‘jog in the drizzle’ of the week and felt that I had done a fair job of using exercise and chocolate to ward off the affects of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) which I struggle with when the weather is gloomy. AND received reassurance from the Dr. that SarahRose’s moles are all benign and only need to be kept an eye on. Saturday-Had a ton of fun at the CAbi free clothes giveaway at Black Forest Baptist Church-What a blessing! If you see me sporting nicer clothes than I’ve ever had in my life, thanks CAbi. It totally made me think of Matthew 6:25-34 New International Version (NIV): Do Not Worry 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. And I went to my first Free for fire victims farmers market at PPCC (Geralyn Steppe has picked up stuff for us before) and was blessed that 3 months after the fire, our community is still reaching out to assist those affected. What a beautiful place to live! I also found some nice shirts at Hangers thrift store in Monument. So here I am, counting my blessings, one by one, and it is really beautiful to see all that God has done! Thanks so much for all your love and prayers...
