Amaechi: APC Government Committed to Youth Empowerment 23 Aug 2014 #ThisdayNews By Ernest Chinwo Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has said his administration on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not about sharing money and rice but about youth empowerment to generate wealth. Amaechi stated this in Port Harcourt while distributing more than 54 cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises equipment to unemployed youth and women of the state. The equipment were procured by the state ministry of commerce and industry. The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Tele Ikuru, said his administration was committed to teaching the people of the state how to create wealth and sustain a good livelihood for themselves rather than depending on handouts. He said, This APC government is not gathering people to dash them money. We are gathering people to give them equipment with which to generate wealth. APC government is not about sharing money and rice but to empower the youth of the state. With these equipment, well generate wealth today, tomorrow and several years to come. In fact, for those who are diligent, from this machine you get today, you will buy a second, third, fourth, fifth and so on. While urging the recipients to be put the equipment to good use, the governor commended the ingenuity of the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Chuma Chinye. It is one thing for government to release money to empower people, and another thing for the empowerment to really happen, he said. In his address, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Chinye, thanked the governor for his support, adding that the empowerment programme was one in a series designed by the Amaechi as his administration draws to a close to touch lives of the very poor. He said the recipients were selected from the 23 local government areas of the state through an open ballot system. The equipment included ice cube 50kg machine, compressed firewood log machine, fertiliser pellet machines, animal feed/pellet machines, heat transfer/T-shirt, plate, cap and plate printing machines. Others were fruit juice and veggie blenders, flour, maize crushing machines, and various fruit processing machines.
